LIVE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT COACHING
Why Can't I Do What I Know I Want to Do?
You understand the pattern.
So why are you still doing it?
You know the conversation you need to have.
You know the boundary.
You know what you want to stop doing.
You may even understand exactly where the pattern came from.
And then the actual moment arrives—and something else happens.

Someone is disappointed in you.
You feel misunderstood.
An authority figure questions you.
Money feels uncertain.
Something important is at stake.
And suddenly the clarity you had yesterday is much harder to access.
This isn't always a problem of knowing.
Sometimes the capacity is already there.
Something about the conditions changes your access to it.
You may already understand yourself very well.
You may know that you overthink.
That you become defensive when you feel misunderstood.
That you take responsibility for other people's emotions.
That you avoid something when it feels overwhelming.
That you become less clear when someone's opinion matters deeply to you.
You may have done therapy, coaching, personal development, meditation, somatic work—or years of your own reflection.
And all of that understanding matters.
But there is a distinction I have become increasingly interested in through decades of working with people:
Knowing something and having access to it when something important is at stake are not the same thing.
When certain conditions activate us, the body can begin organizing before we've consciously decided anything.
Attention narrows.
The body mobilizes or constricts.
Attachment and survival responses come online.
A familiar behavior begins to take over.
And capacities we demonstrably have elsewhere can become harder to access:
Our voice.
Our intelligence.
Our boundaries.
Our perspective.
Our discernment.
Our ability to choose.
That's why “I know better” doesn't always change what happens.
And it's why telling yourself to “just choose differently” often doesn't reach the thing that's actually happening.
Â
This is human development.
The goal isn't to replace an unwanted reaction with a supposedly healthier one.
It's to develop enough capacity to remain in contact with yourself while the old organization is active—so more of your awareness, intelligence, perception and discernment can come back online.
Then you can begin responding to what is actually happening:
This person |Â This situation |Â This moment
Not simply repeating what your system learned to do in the past.
Insight helps you recognize the pattern.
Development changes what becomes available while the pattern is active.
Â
What We'll Explore
- Why knowing isn't always enough.
Why intellectual understanding and real-time access are different capacities—and why someone can understand a pattern completely and still find themselves inside it when the stakes become real.
- What actually happens when something important is at stake.
How physiological, attachment and survival organization can begin shaping your experience before conscious choice is fully available.
- Why your capacities can seem to disappear in particular situations.
Why your voice, boundaries, intelligence, discernment or perspective may be readily available somewhere in your life and much harder to access somewhere else.
- What the developmental edge actually is.
Not eliminating automatic responses. Not suppressing them. Not forcing yourself to perform the “healthy” behavior. But developing greater capacity to remain in contact with yourself while activation is happening.
- How reflex begins to become response.
How more of your awareness, intelligence, perception and discernment can become available so you can respond to what is actually happening in real time—not simply from an old patterned organization.

And Then We'll Work With Real Life.
This isn't a webinar where I talk at you for 90 minutes.
I'll teach the core principles.
And then I'll coach.
Â
“I know. So why am I still doing this?”
We'll work with what's actually happening.
Not simply what you think you should do differently.
We'll get curious about what becomes at stake, what your system begins organizing around, what becomes harder to access—and what would actually need to develop for more of you to become available in that moment. You can volunteer to be coached live, or simply watch the work unfold.
There is enormous value in both.
